CPD, FBI, and other officials bring justice to the murder of Mateo Aguayo
Rolando Ortiz was charged with first- degree murder due to the death of his son, Mateo Garcia Aguayo in Little Village. Officers got the service call around 2 p.m. on the 21 of February, finding the 2-year-old child unresponsive and was pronounced dead. Officials explained at a press conference that Ortiz became frustrated due to the lack off sleep because of his late night job at a factory. While Mateo was running around making to much noise, Ortiz then took his son to the kitchen graved a knife and repeatedly stabbed him to the point of near decapitation. He then realized what he was did and put the child in a garbage bag and tried to get in contact with his wife. She did not answer, so Ortiz called the sister of the mother confessing what he did. The sister had a family member check on the child, but found Mateo dead and Ortiz bleeding from his wrist. While the family called the police, Ortiz fled from the scene, got into his car and drove south.
The Chicago Police department held a press conference, explaining the tragic loss of Mateo innocent life. Eddie T. Jonson, the Superintendent of the Chicago police department described similar cases like the murder of Mateo, "these are the kind of tragedies, that keep police officers working with out sleep." They were able to get the details of the murder because of the witnesses and new that he fled the scene. Jonson when on explaining that with the help of the FBI Illinois State police and Kankakee Police, that Ortiz was found and arrested. He proudly described the work of the officers, as well as the detectives, as "good solid police work." He then thanked the Federal partners for helping and finding their offender. Them working together on this case "was one of many examples of the many ways we work together making Chicago safer" stated Jonson.
